SANIBEL FLORIDA - WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW!
Well, you've had some spectacular views coming over the Sanibel Florida bridge and you've picked up lots of pamphlets at the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce We'll be taking a tour of the island and when our tour is finished you'll have all the information you'll need to decide if this is where you want to take your next vacation. Sanibel Island residents are committed to preservation of their barrier island, so the area has a tremendous amount of wildlife.
You'll have the opportunity to see: - dolphins
- manatees
- egrets
- herons
- spoonbills
- racoons
- and more!
OK, let's start the tour!
HEADING TO THE SANIBEL LIGHTHOUSE
Leaving the Chamber of Commerce turn right onto Causeway Blvd. Go to the stop sign. Turn left onto Periwinkle Way and travel to the beach access at the end. You'll enter the parking lot which will cost $2.00 per hour. You put your money in the machine, take the forthcoming ticket and place it on your dash. If you don't, you will get ticketed! It's an easy walk to the beautiful pristine, white beach over the wooden boardwalk.

Well, OK, you're saying. But where's the lighthouse. Right at the point of reaching the beach, turn left (it's marked) to get to the lighthouse. Before you reach the Sanibel Lighthouse, you'll pass by the beach on the bay side.

You'll find a small pay-and-park lot and restrooms here. Continue down the road a very short way and you'll be at the Sanibel Lighthouse.
Keep driving until you reach the lighthouse at the end of the road.
We're now going to head in the opposite direction to explore the rest of Sanibel Island Florida.
You'll see many folks riding bikes. That's a great idea, because there can be heavy traffic in this area. Bike paths are everywhere, keeping it safe.

Going To Bowman Beach
The next public beach area we'll visit is Bowman's Beach. But, before we get there we'll pass many fine and casual restaurants, and some great and famous Sanibel Island shopping on Periwinkle Way. There are individual shops as well as some great mini-malls with a definite tropical flair. You'll discover that Sanibel Island Florida has it all!
On the way to Bowman's Beach, you'll pass J.N. Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel-Captiva Rd. If you're into wildlife it's a great stop. There are over 8 miles of trails. Fresh and saltwater fishing is permitted.
You get to Sanibel-Captiva Rd. by taking a right at the end of Periwinkle Way. Then turn right onto Tarpon Bay Rd. Go to the end and turn left onto Sanibel Captiva Rd. Travel along about 5 miles. You'll see the sign for Bowman's Beach. Turn left onto Bowman's Beach Rd. and follow it to the Pay-and-Park lot.
After parking, it is approximately an 8 minute walk to the gorgeous beach. There are wooden bridges to walk over with estuaries below, then sandy trails leading to the beach. Keep your eyes open for water birds at the water's edge. It's a little bit of heaven. The turquoise water and beach are exquisite! I definitely this is one of the best Florida beaches. Bring your beach chair, sit down, relax and ENJOY!
