VENICE BEACH FLORIDA

Venice Beach Florida is a beautiful, quaint town with a lovely shopping district and parks. It is located in Sarasota County between Sarasota and Fort Myers.

But, mostly, Venice is known for it's beaches and the famous Venice Jetty in Humphris Park on the north end.

The Venice beaches include:

  • Venice Municipal Beach,
  • Brohard Park with the Venice Fishing Pier, and
  • Caspersen Beach Park.

Venice Beach Florida

While you're in Venice, make sure you visit the famous Venice Jetty at the north end of the beach in Humphris Park. There is a large parking lot and it's a great spot to sit and watch the boats and the sea birds sitting on the jetty. It's also a great fishing and surfing spot and don't forget the gorgeous sunsets.
After you've enjoyed relaxing at the Venice jetty, consider having dinner at one of the great Venice Florida restaurants. Venice Jetty Venice Florida Sunset

Venice Municipal Beach

Venice Municipal Beach is located on the west end of Venice Avenue. When you arrive at the end of Venice Avenue the Municipal Beach is straight across The Esplanade, which runs north and south.

Venice is famous for its fossilized shark teeth. They can be found in abundance on the beach, at the shore line, and, if you SCUBA dive, at the reef situated about 1/4 mile offshore.

There are year round lifeguards, restrooms, picnic tables, a concession stand, a pavilion and volleyball courts.

Venice has a dark sand beach because there is so much fossilized material which washes up on the beach.

From time to time, white sand is added to the beach as part of a beach re-nourishment project. Fossilized teeth can still be found at the water's edge.

When you visit you'll see many people stooped over sifting through the sand for the prized shark teeth.

Brohard Park

At the south end of Venice on Harbor Drive is Brohard Park. The Venice Fishing Pier is located here. Venice Fishing Pier Sharkys Restaurant At the entrance to the Pier is Sharky's Restaurant. It's a great spot to sit, relax and get a bite to eat while listening to tropical music. You can fish from the 740 foot Pier. There is a bait shop, restrooms and a snack bar on the Pier. The charge to go out on the Pier is $1.00.

Continuing south on Harbor Drive you will come to Paw Park where you can bring your dog for some beach romping. Showers and a drinking fountain for the dogs are located here.

Caspersen Beach

The most natural, secluded beach in Venice is Caspersen Beach. It is about 1 mile south of the fishing pier. There are no hotels, condos or private homes. It is the most remote beach in Venice and the beach where most shark teeth can be found.

There are no lifeguards on duty, but you will find a nature trail, restrooms, a picnic area and an 1,100 foot boardwalk.

It's quite likely that you'll spot gopher tortoises in the woods on the sand bluffs above the beach.

Caspersen Beach is a great place to spend the day. Bring a cooler with lunch and plenty of water. Also bring a rishing rod and, maybe a kayak, if you like.
